ACT I

Siberia / winter, two armed men in a jeep.  The car is being driven across a frozen wilderness.  The men don’t talk, the only sound that can be heard is of a radio scanner operating.  The car stops at the perimeter of an old industrial plant.  Warning notices written in Russian can be seen everywhere.  The men cut through the wire mesh fence and enter the premises.  Explosives tear the giant locking rods on the doors apart and the huge doors open effortlessly.

The building they have entered was once under special surveillance.  A maze of corridors with flickering light cast by torches leads to what appears to be the interior of a former laboratory.  At the very end of the hallway, we can see a huge hermetic gate.  One of the men cuts a bar in half using a high-powered laser.  The vault contains an array of crates with meticulously laid-out glass tubes.  Labels in Russian can be seen on the crates.

London 2018

Adam (23) is a cybernetics student at Queen Mary University.  His flat-mate, Kenneth (22), dropped out of his education, taking a leave of absence from his studies.  He plans to take a gap year and go backpacking in SE Asia.  Kenneth lives with Adam, splitting the cost of the rent for their small social housing flat in Zone 3 (Luton).  The borough is quite dangerous, but it’s cheap.

Stacy (21) is a medical student.  She is responsible, calm, and well-mannered.  Her flat-mate, Pati (23), has just earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cosmetology and works at a beauty SPA in London.  They still live in student accommodation.  Stacy and Pati are very different.  Pati is confident, very attractive, and well aware of the fact that she arouses men’s interest.  Stacy is pretty, but not in a provocative way.  They had met Adam and Kenneth a year earlier at a college party.  Kenneth has been trying to get Stacy’s attention for a long time and although the girl isn’t exactly encouraging, she doesn’t completely ignore his efforts either.

Chiara (27) is Stacy’s older sister who lives close to the girls’ Halls of Residence with her fiancé, David (37).  David works in a dissecting lab and the rest of the group of friends are both scared and intrigued by his profession.  Chiara is a medical graduate working in the ICU at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.  She is very close to her sister.  They spend all their free time together.  David tolerates Pati’s company but doesn’t take her friends seriously.  This is due, in part, to the age difference and the characters of the younger people.  David neither respects nor trusts them.  We meet the protagonists in early December.  Based on a conversation between Adam and Kenneth, we learn that they are making preparations to go partying at the weekend – Christmas rave parties in London clubs are amongst the best of their kind in Europe.  During the Christmas break, floods of young people from all over the Continent come to London.  Cheap airlines advertise these 3 day-long music marathons coupled with a load of “unforgettable experiences.”  They plan to meet as a group in the evening.  Adam tells Kenneth about his idea in secret.  He wants to buy drugs online.  Adam is a cybernetics and IT student, so he knows exactly what THOR1 is.  Kenneth is full of doubts because he knows that such a purchase is illegal, but he eventually succumbs to his friend’s persuasion.  Adam logs on to his online account, a link shows up in a window of the THOR communicator.  After clicking the link, an app is momentarily installed on the mobile phone.  Adam retrieves cardboard VR goggles from a drawer and mounts his smartphone in the goggles.  The front camera on the mobile phone immediately scans the boy’s iris.  They leave the flat.  In the goggles, Adam can see the real image along the way, recorded by the back camera.  The app provides guidance as to where they should be heading in line with the location data.  Kenneth feels lost.  He doesn’t understand this new way of buying drugs and wonders if it’s safe.

A virtual GPS map guides the protagonists to a post-industrial borough of London.  In a deserted Hall, we see the silhouette of a midget counting the money he has received from Adam.  Kenneth feels increasingly uneasy and is feeling really frightened the whole time.  The man instructs Adam to put the goggles on.  Instructions on how to reach “the stash” appear on the display.  After following a convoluted trail which leads through the deserted manufacturing estates of East London, they finally come to an unkempt hovel.  They find a small container with the biohazard symbol on it.  Adam smirks.  This novel way of buying drugs which is a whole new adventure in itself is proving to be quite enjoyable.  Once they have returned home, he peers into the container.  He extracts a glass laboratory tube from the metal cylinder.  The drug has the appearance of a light blue gas……Blue Mist.
